Project
The project “4489 Decarbonization of electricity consumption at Vimasol - Energias Renováveis, Lda” is funded by the PRR of the Portuguese Republic under the European Union's NextGenerationEU program.
Objectives and Results
The project aims to decarbonize the processing activity of a pellet manufacturing plant located in Celorico de Basto. The transformation of wood into pellets is an activity that uses a variety of machinery with high electricity consumption, operating continuously throughout the daily working day. The project to be implemented aims to install a self-consumption production unit using solar photovoltaic technology, with an installed power of 261 kWp and a nominal power of 250 kW. This action will achieve a reduction in electricity consumption of around 411472 kWh (or 75.71 tCO2), which corresponds to a 35% overall reduction. This project will allow the pellet processing industry to accelerate the green transition, migrating to energy consumption from clean sources. It will also increase their financial resilience, as it will make it possible to offset the large fluctuations in energy supply prices.
